  45. We are graduate students from Carnegie Mellon University's Information
  46. Networking Institute.  Currently we are working on a project to design
  47. and develop a "billing server" on the Internet.  This "billing server"
  48. will provide billing functions for various service providers who could
  49. sell their information services electronically over the Internet.  We
  50. believe that many of you could be potential service providers (our
  51. customers). Therefore, your input to this market survey will be valuable
  52. to the success of our project, and greatly appreciated.

  54. The "billing server" that we envision would include billing functions
  55. such as customized billing, invoice creation, service charge calculation
  56. and collection, centralzied authentication, topical directory service,
  57. and customer inquiry handling.  Basically, it is like a credit card
  58. service for the electronic services available on the Internet.
